The actual trojan war occured this many years before homer wrote the iliad?

As the war assumed to be over Troy happened in 1250 bc, and the poem was written sometime between 900 to 600 bc , it would be safe to guess about 300 to 400 years passed between the two. Check wikipedia for more information.
