What are examples of how war diminishes men in the Iliad by Homer?
I cant really answer that because I cant remember The Iliad very well, but i can say that war "diminishes" men both literally and figuratively. Im sure you can figure out how literally, but for the figurative aspect i can only explain it this way. War brings out the worst parts of human nature, for those who are doing the fighting and the killing and even for those who are being fought and getting killed. The ones doing the killing show an almost demonic dispassion and disregard for human life and liberty, killing with abandon and without any mercy, that diminishes men on a moral level, shows us just how despicable a human being can become. And on the flip side those who are being killed, will abandon hope, will beg for their lives and are willing to do almost any level of depraved thing just to survive.
