Searching for an "adult" Robin Hood book, any clues?

When I was small I read a really great "adult" Robin Hood book. It wasn't Pyle for sure, I tried and it is way too, well, merry. And childish too, but it's fine, I know it is a kid book. I just can't find The book and I want to read it again. Can someone help? Any clues?
