Why can't 'christians' understand that the same kind of imagination that created the "Iliad" and the "Odyssey"?

and all the fanciful 'events' in those epic stories could not have been operating with the writers of the gospels? People have been writing fiction for a long, long time, and the narrative style of the gospels is fiction, not history.
